Standardized Baybayin
Baybayin developments started during or even before the Spaniards came to our islands. Zambal baybayin of Bolinao have already developed as they have symbol for E different from I symbol and Da to Ra. But the most controversial development was done by Lopez when he introduced Cross kudlit as a vowel killer. Filipinos never accepted cross kudlit as it represents Christianity or western influence to our writing system. In Standardizing Baybayin we have to consider: History of Baybayin, Rules in writing the script/Traditional way, Comparing with related scripts such as Kavi and other South East Asian scripts. We also have to consider the main purpose of new developed Baybayin characters and it's Public Acceptance.
From Luzon down to Visayas and Mindanao we have different writing system related with each other -the Baybayin. Although we have Baybayin as our script, still not enough, we have to develop the system for current generation applications such as Technology, Documentation and Communication purposes.Through development of Baybayin script system we can show to the world that we have our own matured writing system. |
